Jaw Joint Pain
Jaw joint (TMJ) problems are surprisingly common. Clenching and grinding of the teeth, often overnight when patients are unaware they are doing it, can cause clicking, painful and sticking jaw joints. This can be a major factor in causing headaches, and chipped or broken teeth.
At every examination we will check that your jaw joints are healthy and look for signs of any tooth or joint damage from clenching or grinding habits. Treatment can be as simple as providing a night time bite-guard to protect the teeth and keep the joints in a relaxed position.
We will carefully assess your joint function and occlusion to identify any problems. Often symptoms can be completely alleviated by wearing a simple appliance at night during sleep.
